Electronics & Noise Control

Common Noise Problems

Plasma cutting creates electrical interference that can cause random cut failures, THC glitches, or communication dropouts.

Best Practices

  • Ground everything: table, gantry, control box, and plasma power supply tied to a single earth ground.

  • Separate high-voltage and low-voltage lines. Never run torch leads alongside signal cables. Cross at 90° if necessary.

  • Use shielded cables for RS485 and USB connections.

  • Secure RS485 hub plugs — vibration loosens them over time.

  • Keep torch leads off the floor to reduce interference loops.

Troubleshooting

  • Random stops → check grounding and shielding first.

  • THC cutting out → reseat connections in the CandCNC hub.

  • Motion glitches → inspect motor/signal wiring for noise pickup.
