Torch Height Control (THC) Setup
Key Settings
-
Pierce height: Follow Hypertherm cut charts. Too low = blowback; too high = failed starts.
-
Cut height: Critical for edge quality. Always match chart value, then fine-tune.
-
Cut volts: Start with Hypertherm’s recommended voltage, then adjust +/– 1–2V to minimize bevel.
Best Practices
-
Verify ohmic sensing: Paint, rust, or mill scale can give false readings. Keep tip and work surface clean.
-
Test with scrap: Before a production job, test pierce height and volts to confirm cut angles.
-
Monitor torch dive: If torch dives mid-cut → usually wrong voltage, noisy signals, or grounding issues.
-
For CandCNC systems: check FeatherTouch wiring and RS485 hub stability if THC is unresponsive.
Pro Tip
Keep a saved set of cut parameters (“golden settings”) for each material and thickness you cut frequently.
